Although the cornerstone of the Harborview Bond is the new inpatient tower, the Harborview Construction and Infrastructure Division (HCID) is making progress on two key affiliated projects: a below-grade parking structure to be located at 9th Avenue and Alder Street (which will serve as overflow parking throughout all construction across campus and we hope will later host a medical office building above it) and a colocation office space for Bond program staff to be located at Terry Avenue and Terrace Street.
Parking structure at 9th and Alder
The county owns the vacant lot at 9th and Alder, immediately next to the Harborview campus, which will become a below-grade parking structure. We ultimately hope to build a medical office building above this parking structure in the future, but that additional scope will require additional funding. Our design-build team of Mortenson and Perkins&Will have reached 100% schematic design on the structure.
This parking structure will be critical to the work happening across Harborview’s campus, as it will serve as overflow parking when construction on the new tower begins at the site of the View Park garage.
Colocation space at Terry and Terrace
Creating a shared office space for staff working on the Harborview Bond projects is key to success across all our projects, which require extensive collaboration between King County, UW Medicine, and all our design and construction partners. We have completed design on the office space, which will be a modular, three-story building at 925 Terrace Street. There will be some disruption to sidewalks and roads during installation this fall, but the disruptions will be relatively brief, and most road closures will take place outside of peak transit hours. We will host disruption information on the Harborview Bond site when it becomes available.
