Pioneer Square Clinic Relocation
The Pioneer Square Clinic, owned by King County and operated by UW Medicine, is located a little more than half mile from Harborview Medical Center’s campus and provides low-barrier, trauma-informed, evidence-based care to some of Seattle’s most vulnerable residents.
In the next several years, the clinic will move from its current location at 206 3rd Avenue into the nearby Duncan Building at 315 2nd Avenue, only about two blocks away. Renovation of the space in the Duncan Building will greatly improve the experience of staff, clinicians, and patients, and increase the visibility of the clinic from the street.
About the Pioneer Square Clinic and Harborview's Community-Based Care Programs
For more than 50 years, Pioneer Square Clinic has provided low-barrier, trauma-informed, evidence-based care to some of Seattle’s most vulnerable residents. In addition to clinic visits, providers and staff go to the sites where their patients seek housing and other social services. Throughout all the growth and change over the last five decades, Pioneer Square Clinic has always treated every patient with empathy, dignity and respect, reflecting the essence of Harborview’s mission to deliver “exceptional care without exception.”
As part of its mission, Harborview offers low-barrier care to patients throughout the community. This encompasses a total of 15 additional community-based sites and five mobile teams that provide a variety of care services for patients across King County. This includes three brick-and-mortar sites that offer comprehensive primary care: Pioneer Square Clinic, Hobson Place Clinic in North Beacon Hill, and the Third Ave Clinic in Belltown.
The Edward Thomas House medical respite program at Jefferson Terrace is an affiliated King County program, operated by Harborview, that provides recuperative care to unhoused individuals recovering from serious medical illness. Together, these programs bring over 35,000 medical appointments directly to patients each year.
About the Relocation Project
We hope to begin renovations on the Duncan Building in 2028, with a move-in date in 2029. The plan is for the clinic to continue operating in its current space until the Duncan Building has been fully refurbished as a clinical space and then relocate to the new location. The Clinic is not opening a second location.
Delivering excellent, compassionate care for our patients and delivering on the Harborview mission remain our top priorities. We are ensuring that care continues seamlessly in the Clinic and at Harborview throughout this period of transition. Project representatives for King County are in close contact with surrounding businesses and residents to ensure that this transition from the Clinic’s original building to the Duncan Building space causes minimal disruption in the neighborhood, and we are grateful for the overwhelming community support.
Renovation of the new Pioneer Square Clinic will be funded primarily through a critical King County Hospital Levy that passed at the end of 2025.
