The transformation of healthcare in our region is one step closer to reality with the recent release of the Harborview Bond Program’s (HBP) highly anticipated request for proposals (RFP) to the three shortlisted firms for the new tower.
The RFP focuses on the development of a new inpatient tower, and the renovation of essential hospital and County spaces within the hospital. This moment comes after a thorough vetting process of requests for qualifications submitted in September and October 2024.
HBP seeks a design-builder who will construct the new tower while reflecting the county’s commitment to building innovative, accessible, and sustainable healthcare facilities. The selected design-builder will enter into a contract with the county, but will play an important role in collaborating closely with both the county, staff at Harborview Medical Center, and construction management contractor Vanir. Design-Build emphasizes the importance of clear communication, equitable practices, and collaboration throughout the construction process, ensuring that the final product aligns with the vision and needs of all involved parties.
In addition to meeting the immediate needs of the hospital, the design-builder will be tasked with integrating innovative solutions to create sustainable earthquake-proof buildings.
This RFP release marks a significant milestone in the journey toward expanding healthcare access for the Pacific Northwest region’s most vulnerable populations. It represents an opportunity for firms to contribute to a legacy of innovation, accessibility, sustainability, and social equity in healthcare design and construction.
