$1.74 billion bond approved overwhelmingly by voters. The bond will be distributed through a phased approach over the life of the Program. 

The bond will fund the construction of a new in-patient medical tower with parking, the development of infrastructure, the renovation of essential services, and County spaces located in older hospital facilities.

The work will include expanded single-patient rooms and emergency department.

New tower construction is expected to begin in 2026, and early site work may begin in 2025.

This project is a collaboration between King County, the owner of the hospital, and UW Medicine, the provider of health care services. With the support of a diverse community and project team, we will ensure Harborview remains mission-driven as a Level 1 trauma center serving the Pacific Northwest with comprehensive healthcare for a broad spectrum of patients, including the most vulnerable people within King County.

The Bond Program includes oversight from various communities and connected to the development of the First Hill neighborhood. Community oversight entities include the Implementation Advisory Committee (hyperlocal community groups) and labor partners. Internal Harborview Medical Center oversight entities include the Capital Program Oversight Committee, Harborview Board of Trustees, and King County Council. The City of Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections provides additional oversight.

The UW Medicine physicians, staff and other healthcare professionals based at Harborview provide exemplary patient care in leading-edge centers of emphasis, including emergency medicine, trauma and burn care; neurosciences, ophthalmology, vascular surgery, HIV/AIDS and rehabilitation medicine.

The Bond Program expects an RFQ to be released in the third quarter of 2024 and an RFP to be released shortly thereafter.
